Composite/Resin Tooth Fillings

Fillings are common procedures to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay. Your dentist at Port Orchard Dental Excellence will provide a filling by removing the decayed part of the tooth, clean the affected area and fill the cavity to prevent further decay.

Mercury-Free Fillings

At Port Orchard Dental Excellence, we use mercury-free fillings. Silver fillings are made of a combination of metals including mercury which can be harmful to you. Mercury fillings do not resemble natural teeth and can weaken a tooth. The associates at Port Orchard Dental Excellence will replace your silver fillings with a more natural and healthier tooth-colored restoration.

What Is Tooth-Colored Restoration?

Tooth-color restoration match the natural color of your teeth. They resemble the natural color of your real teeth, are safe and long lasting. Tooth color restorations are made with a blend of resin and silica. The resin contains fluoride which will prevent additional decay in your tooth. Tooth-colored restoration will preserve more of your tooth’s natural structure than traditional silver fillings.

How Do I Replace Silver Fillings?

The dentists at Port Orchard Dental Excellence will replace your silver fillings with a tooth colored restoration. To accomplish this, your dentist will remove the old silver filling, along with any decay and then make an impression of your teeth. You will receive a temporary onlay while your impression is sent to the lab to create your tooth color restoration. During your second appointment, the dentist will remove your temporary onlay and replace it with your new tooth-colored restoration. After that, the filling will be bonded and then polished.

Dr. Michael Yu Yeh, Dr. Lance Stolworthy and their associates can give you more information about mercury-free fillings or removing your silver fillings during any appointment. Please schedule an appointment to learn more!
